Buy the fastpass, be grateful for the fastpass
For those who have had to wait forever in a line, the fastpass was one of the greatest concepts that Walt Disney World ever employed. This pass essentially allows you to go around the long lines and get you onto your ride quicker.
It is not complicated, but there are some things you need to know about the fastpass.
Let's say you want to go on your favorite ride. Unfortunately, your favorite ride happens to be 300 other peoples favorite ride and they all want to ride at the same time as you! Well, when you get to the line you will see two signs that say "Fastpass Return time 3p.m." and "Standby Entrance: 45 minutes." You see that it is now 2p.m. You decide that you want a bite to eat before going, but you don't want to wait in line while eating. You simply insert your park pass into the Fastpass dispenser. You will be issued a ticket that allows you to come back at 3p.m. to 4p.m. (you get an hour window) and go through the fastpass line which is way faster than waiting in line. Essentially, you guarantee yourself a ride with a small portion of the wait time. The downside is that you can only get one fastpass at a time. If you try to get more than one pass before you have used it up, you will be denied. I know you were thinking it! Sorry, someone decided to take away your idea.
To get the most out of your fastpass, do a little shopping before you get a pass issued. Some rides have long Fastpass return times and short Standby times. Some rides are exactly the opposite. Pick your 2 favorite rides and then select the shortest fastpass return time and then stand in line at the shortest standby time ride. Just because you are on vacation doesn't mean you shouldn't use your math skills!
Also, don't use up your fastpass on a ride that has a really long return time. You will be unable to use your fastpass again until you have finished that ride. This could cause a lot of time to be waisted.
