If you are new to tent camping, you will need to have a basic knowledge of the different kinds of tents.

If you have ever considered tent camping, but haven't done it yet, now is the time to reconsider. More and more families are realizing that tent camping can be a perfect family vacation getaway.
Camping has been around since the dawn of time, but the gear involved to go camping has dramatically improved in the last 25 years. There are "pup tents," family size tents, 3 season tents and 4 season tents. All these tents serve their own purpose and usefullness.
The long and short of it is that if you plan to take your family camping, you need to know what best suits your needs.
A pup tent is the smallest style tent and generally only sleeps 1 large person or 2 small to medium size people. Although I have shared a pup tent with a 6'3" person and still slept rather comfortably.
A family tent is the kind you can usually find in stores like Walmart, Costco, Kmart, etc. These tents are the most common kind of tent for families who go tent camping 1-2 times a year. Most family tents will have 1-4 siderooms on them and once erected, can stand as tall as a person and be the size of a miniature house.

A 3 season tent is basically designed for spring, summer, and fall. It is not recommended you use this for winter camping, unless you have mild winters where you live.
A 4 season tent will get you through the year, but this tent will also cost more than your standard tent.
When you get done camping, there are a few things you should do, to ensure the logevity of your investment you made in your
tent.
