Tobermory is a must see on your next family vacation getaway!

The pristine beauty of Tobermory, Ontario is such that it almost takes your breath away! If you have been considering a Lake Huron family vacation, we don't suggest you visit, we are telling you! This quaint little town on the Bruce Peninsula boasts something for everyone.

Your family vacation getaway to Tobermory will offer many different activities to keep everyone happy. If you enjoy beauty, Tobermory has the largest concentration of orchids in all of North America.

Play on the beach outside Tobermory If you enjoy more strenuous activities, you will find that all of Bruce Peninsula offers some of the most exciting activities, sure to keep every family member busy. You can enjoy a glass bottom boat ride and watch the many different schools of fish through the crystal clear water. Or, you can rent kayaks or canoes and sail around the numerous islands within the vicinity of Tobermory. Fishing is a big draw for fathers and sons and you can be guaranteed of a good time if you rent a boat or hire a guide for a day on Lake Huron. Hiking is also a major draw on most Lake Huron family vacations, because of the majestic cliffs and landscapes surrounding the area. You can be sure to run across many avid naturalists and hikers because of the photogenic beauty of Bruce Peninsula.

If you want to just spend time touring the town of Tobermory, you will find that this cute little town has two harbors affectionately named "Big Tub" and "Little Tub" from which you can check out the luxury yachts and sail boats which dock here every year. Taking a stroll on the boardwalk will be sure to Traffic jam at the docks! reveal some great places to eat, like The Crows Nest or some of the many ice cream shops. You will probably be enticed by Lake Huron as you walk around and therefore we suggest you make your Lake Huron family vacation complete by taking a dip in the lake at Singing Sands beach in Dorcas Bay.

To visit Tobermory, you can arrive in one of several ways. The town has a lighted airstrip, making it possible to fly in. You could also take the Chi-Cheemaun ferry, and enjoy a dinner aboard with up to 600 other vacationers and passengers. We recommend this trip, even if it is not how you choose to arrive. You should get reservations in the Spring and Fall, however, since these are peak travel times. The last way to arrive in Tobermory, is of course to drive.

When staying in Tobermory, you have several options of places to stay. If you plan to stay in a hotel/motel, we recommend the

Bruce Anchor Motel because it is the closest to the ferry, has a deck overlooking the Big Tub Harbor and Georgian Bay, and has 5 cottages with full kitchens, making it perfect for a family. The only downside is that it is open from May to November. If you plan to camp, there are several different campgrounds to stay at, but we recommend Miller's Family Camp. Just a short drive south of Tobermory, this camp is situated along the inland Miller Lake and offers fishing, boating and a sandy beach. The cottages you can rent are large enough to accomodate up to 10 people and are fully equipped with stoves, refrigerators and utensils, making this the ideal place to spend your Lake Huron family vacation.
